Fire on the Mountain Mission Trip: Philippines 2017

Over spring break, I went on a mission trip to the Philippines with 20 other Catholics from the Newman Center at GCU. I created this video to give you all recap and a little insight as to what we were able to do while we were there!

I’ll provide you guys with a little (a lot?) of context in case this video is confusing in any way :)

On Monday, after a day or two of traveling, we arrived in Legazpi City, Philippines! Once we got to our hotel, we packed about 100 bags of food that we would give to the less fortunate living on the mountain the next day. Then we visited Sagrada Familia and visited with some little kids, special needs kids, and elderly wheelchair bound men. We sang some songs, gave them gifts, and just had a great time.

On Tuesday, we met up with some volunteers from Don Bosco, a local college, who would help us with mountain ministry. We walked up and down the mountain and gave out the food bags we packed on Monday and prayed with each of the families living on the mountain. After lunch, we hosted a healing mass at Don Bosco for the college students and the families in the area. I think there was about 500 people there, and we were able to minister to them through mass, adoration, and prayer ministry.

Wednesday was our day off! We decided to go to the beach, so we spent about half an hour on tiny boats to get to the “vanishing island” in the middle of the ocean. It was a beautiful day with a great view of the volcano! Once we were back on the main island, we enjoyed the rest of the day with food, friends, and karaoke.

On Thursday, we spent the day at Bicol University where we hosted a day retreat for about 1,000 college students. Throughout the day, we had talks from both of our friars and a student testimony. We also celebrated mass, had adoration, and had a lot of time for prayer ministry at the end. God did a lot of amazing things that day and it was really blessed!

On Friday, we flew back to Manila and got to experience some Filipino culture during dinner! It was a great performance and at the end of it they invited a bunch of us to dance with them which was an amazing way to end the trip!

Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout this process! Your prayers, donations, love, and support are greatly appreciated; without you, this trip would not have been possible. I know that sounds cheesy and everyone says that but it’s true!
